Media Alert: Second Pipe Burst

MEDIA ALERT – SECOND PIPE BURST – TECHNICIANS ON SITE
Our engineers were able to fix the pipe that had burst on 16 November 2017 that had resulted in an emergency shutdown. Unfortunately, early this morning we encountered another burst on the same pipeline which obstructed pumping of water into the reservoir. Once the recharge was completed and water had reached the main reservoir (Brandkop), an hour later it was reported that Uitkyk reservoir levels were drastically going down and it was suspected there might be another burst pipe, which was later confirmed. We immediately dispatched our team and they are working over-drive to ensure that work is completed in time. The repair work is expected to take 24-hours. Only Southern part of the city is affected.
Water tankers and jojo tanks have been allocated as follows to the affected areas:

  • Pellisier – opposite Engen Garage
  • Pellisier – OK shopping centre
  • Fichardt Park – Dave’s Meat Market and Pick ‘n Pay Hyper
  • Fleurdal – Pick ‘n Pay Kay’s Centre
  • Fauna – Checker’s Hyper and Game stores
  • Louriepark – school
  • Gardenia Park – shopping complex
  • Makro – garage
  • Universitas – shopping complex

If there are any other reported areas, we will immediately dispatch water tankers and jojos. All residents in Bloemfontein are hereby requested to use water sparingly to avoid further interruptions in the supply. Residents of Mangaung Metro will be regularly updated on the progress regarding the shutdown.

Ends.
